Hello, I'm Beau!
Welcome to Beau Flahive Studios. I'm so happy you are here!
Pull up a stool or piano bench, and join me in my private music studio. After 22 years teaching music at Northampton High School, I decided to return to my private business teaching voice and piano lessons.
Every time you walk into Beau Flahive Studios, my goal is for you to leave feeling lighter, happier, and simply better than when you arrived. I love what I do, and look forward to sharing music with you soon.
My Musical Background
A native of the Pioneer Valley, Beau Flahive holds a B.M. in Composition with a focus on voice and piano from UMass Amherst, a B.M. in Music Education from UMass Amherst, and a M.A. in Musicology with a focus on piano from Smith College.
Beau began her musical career as a performer and composer, performing in rock bands and jazz trios, and as a solo vocalist and pianist. In 1980, she began teaching in Western Massachusetts area high schools, and in colleges as an adjunct professor. Beau opened a private studio in downtown Northampton, MA in 1989, servicing hundreds of students over the years. Later, in 2000, Beau accepted the position as Choral Director at Northampton High School with the directive to build a vibrant music program. In her tenure at Northampton High, she received the Ashfeld Award for Dynamic Impact in the Arts from the City of Northampton, the Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Award, and the Award for Community Service in the Arts from the City of Northampton. Among other accolades, she was voted 'Teacher of the Year' by Northampton High School Class of 2022.
As a child, Beau's parents took her to Tanglewood every summer, and it was there, listening to Mahler's 5th Symphony under the stars, that she first felt a deep pull to express herself and connect with others through music.
